The Department of Education at the American University of Beirut organized the second education forum of the current academic year, entitled “The Experience of Preparing the Excellence Guide at Al-Mabarrat's Institutions: A Step in Its Path of Continuous Development”, attended by educational experts, members from Al-Mabarrat and students from the university.
The meeting comprised a presentation of Al-Mabarrat's institutions' experience in preparing an accreditation system for institutional excellence and the many stages it has passed through: beginning with Al-Mabarrat's adoption of the quality management system, then the establishment of the administrative development programme aimed at empowering Al-Mabarrat's leaders and preparing them continuously, passing through the self-assessment study to measure the impact of the administrative development programme on Al-Mabarrat's performance ten years after its application, after which the fourth stage was manifested in preparing an accreditation system for institutional excellence, set out in a guide of its own. This guide marked an important turning point in the historical course of development at Al-Mabarrat.
It is worth noting that the guide rested on two principles: the first, the importance of adopting assessment criteria that accord with the particular context (Al-Mabarrat) and the general context (the Arab world); the second, drawing on best practices in the international educational literature so that the assessment criteria would be ambitious and grounded in the best that educational research has reached. In respect of these two principles, local educational experts were engaged, after which work began along an experimental learning path extending over years, leading to the preparation of a guide to institutional excellence that helps deliver outputs efficiently and effectively in a way that meets the needs and expectations of beneficiaries.
