Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association announced the launch of “National Reading Week” in cooperation with the Public Library of the religious authority Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah (may God be pleased with him). The week comprises a range of cultural activities organized by the unit of school librarians of Al-Mabarrat schools in Beirut, aimed at marking the occasion and strengthening a culture of reading in society. It runs from 9 to 15 April.
On the first day of these activities, which were aimed at pupils of Al-Mabarrat schools in Beirut from kindergarten through secondary level, a range of distinctive cultural events took place, including two awareness lectures for young people titled:
“Emotional Intelligence” with Ms. Suzanne Chaito, and “My Mental Health” with the specialist Sara Al-Dor. There were also story readings for children titled: “Learn Numbers with Me”, “Firas and the Wasp”, “Insects in My Head” and “The Lazy Ant”, in addition to an educational cultural activity for second-cycle pupils titled “What If”.
On the second day the cultural activities were many and varied, ranging from awareness lectures with the following titles: “How Do I Choose My Friends”, delivered by Ms. Sara Al-Dor to third-cycle pupils, and another lecture, “How Good It Is to Live Responsibility”, with Ms. Batoul Chahine for secondary-level pupils. The story readings were varied and aimed at the first and second cycles as well as kindergarten pupils, with the following titles: “The Rooster and the Hen”, “Insects in My Hair”, “The Hare and the Tortoise”, and the “What If” activity.
The activities continue through the week at the Public Library of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah (may God be pleased with him), varied across the cultural, educational and pedagogical fields, serving as a platform for engaging with pupils and encouraging everyone to take an interest in reading as part of the culture of daily life.
It is also worth noting that these events come as part of the efforts of the school librarians' unit at Al-Mabarrat schools to spread a culture of reading and strengthen pupils' literary skills, and form part of the commitment of Al-Mabarrat schools and the Public Library of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah (may God be pleased with him) to organizing educational activities aimed at fostering a love of reading among young people and children.
