Al-Mabarrat's schools in Beirut organized the “twelfth annual book fair”, which featured meetings, competitions and activities in which pupils from various educational institutions in Beirut took part, amounting to some sixty activities over the course of a week.
The gathering opened with a speech from the “librarians' unit” delivered by Lamia Halawi, which read: “Our fair this year has a special flavour, as it includes some forty activities aimed at all age stages, with subjects that touch the pupils' needs and work to bring out their intellectual and artistic talents and to strengthen their culture through purposeful educational stories.”
She added: “Activities were carried out from students to students and from teachers to students in various languages, with activities emerging from the reality we live - such as the relationship of distinction and excellence to reading, the age of obsession with the phone, and objectivity on social media.”
Then Allama Dr. Jaafar Fadlallah and Dr. Habib Fayyad gave an intellectual panel entitled “Reading and Building the Leadership Character”, in which Fadlallah pointed out “that the leadership character is inseparable from one of the most important sources of knowledge, which falls under the framework of continuous self-learning, which no school, university or formal or informal academic path bounds.”
Dr. Habib Fayyad said: “Through the leadership character I can turn into a model through which I lead others; there is a trust upon the neck of each of us that we must develop and crystallize, and the best way of developing is reading, and the finest form of the word is writing.”
The panel was followed by the opening of the fair and a tour by those present of its many corners.
