She was not content merely to praise it but made it the core of her duties and her role, which gave her life the mission-driven meaning that set out from the thought of its founder His Eminence Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah. Hajjeh Rana was sincere to this project - indeed she was among those who took part in laying its first building blocks, gave it all her effort and her life, and provided all the conditions that ensure its success despite the difficulties and challenges this homeland faced at every previous stage.”

He added: “It was not strange that her concern should be to discover and invest any creativity in the administrative, educational or scholarly field so as to employ it in growing and developing not only Al-Mabarrat but to place all of that in the service of the education sector at the level of the homeland. Testifying to this are her radiant marks, hers and those of her male and female colleagues, in what has been accomplished of official educational curricula. Much of what her experiences held of leaps and illuminations remains something we need in developing the educational aspect, to which the state ought to give essential attention and which it should not neglect under the weight of the successive blows of the living and economic crises.”

Fadlallah held that: “The loss of the late Rana is a great loss for Al-Mabarrat and for the educational and scholarly body in Lebanon”, and said: “The loss is that she should depart in these very days in which we count on such creative figures, when the homeland is in the greatest need of them - for by such figures nations are built, peoples rise and the future is made.”

Al-Ashkar
After that came the speech of the Minister of Education and Higher Education Judge Abbas Al-Halabi, delivered by the Director General of Education Imad Al-Ashkar, in which he enumerated the departed's qualities, saying: “Rarely has the educational family been so unanimous in loving an educational and professional figure as it has been in loving the dear departed Mrs. Rana Ismail. With her presence, the soundness of her mind and the depth of her approach to educational issues, she adorned every educational conference, every educational meeting and every committee working for education and for people with special needs and learning difficulties. She was also an active partner and a voice that was listened to in the educational curricula workshops and in every participation in this field, which grieves and aches at her departure”

He pointed out that: “Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association drew for itself a clear line in faith in God, in strengthening sincere patriotism, in respect for the law and in communication with the other in the homeland. It preserved well the line of the founder Allama Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah in faith, values and ethics, which call for knowledge, culture and holding fast to our national heritage, along with openness to world cultures and languages and engagement in scientific progress.”

He added: “Here is Al-Mabarrat today, under the presidency of Allama Sayyed Ali Fadlallah, pursuing the journey of development and of care for human resources through the educational and university institutions, the social institutions and the medical care institutions, and attending to all the children of society, especially those on whom life has been harsh.”

Al-Amin

The researcher at the Lebanese Association for Educational Studies Dr. Adnan Al-Amine then delivered a speech in which he said: “Rana Ismail astonishes me by combining the broad intellectual background she possessed with her high capacity to be sensitive to practices; by combining firmness and flexibility, calmness of speech and strength of argument, openness to Western theories and adherence to institutional, religious and social traditions. This openness was the gateway to the relationship that developed between Al-Mabarrat Association and the Lebanese Association for Educational Studies.”

He added: “What brought us together with the association under Ms. Rana's leadership was the priority of knowledge over ideology, and the belief that teaching targets the students and the provision of the highest quality of learning for them, and that everything else is means: appointing directors and teachers, training them, choosing the study subjects and so on. Do not think that I am saying a self-evident idea taken for granted; I wager with you that what happens in a great many corners of our Lebanese society is the opposite - there the means are the end; schools are established and filled to serve those who run them, just as some hospitals are established to serve those who run them and not for the sake of the patients.”

UNESCO

After that Mr. Assem Abi Ali delivered the speech of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, in which he said: “The late Rana worked with the UNESCO office with every faithfulness and professionalism to offer the best she had; she was a reference for UNESCO on the subjects of psychosocial support and in the fields of education, teaching and early childhood. Her professional relationship with the UNESCO office was marked by faithfulness and professionalism: she took part in developing specialized training programmes, produced training guides, prepared regional reports and took part in many local, regional and also international conferences and discussions”

He added: “Mrs. Rana shared, with great transparency, her accumulated expertise - especially her experience at Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association - with everyone she worked with and everyone she trained in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan and the other countries in which we work. What she produced of reports and training guides will remain a reference and a source of knowledge and development for many teachers, educators and trainers in Lebanon and the Arab countries, and her mark and her life will remain a source of inspiration for us all. She was always a voice defending the causes of childhood, education and teaching, especially for those who are at risk or who live in difficult places or times.”

Karami
The head of the education department at the American University of Beirut Dr. Rima Karami then delivered a speech in which she said: “Rarely do we meet educational leaders in whose qualities the traits of the transformational educational leader, the strategic planner and the effective administrator come together. Rana combined these qualities and translated them into achievements for the educational institutions to whose service she devoted her professional journey. Rana possessed a renewing vision par excellence, an ability to engineer strategic plans to realize it, skills to manage the process of implementing it in all its details, an openness to evaluating what she had done, and the courage to adopt the results of that evaluation with a critical eye ready to improve and to learn. Rana was the godmother of the administrative development programme launched by Al-Mabarrat Association, which she organized and managed for ten years, so that Al-Mabarrat Association's institutions became the first to prepare their administrative cadres in an era in which the concept of administrative training, especially in the educational and care sector, had not yet been written down or adopted.”

She pointed out that: “Rana's wise leadership and management for twenty-five years of one renewing initiative after another, and her turning them into policies, helped weave an institutional fabric for Al-Mabarrat in which she planted the seeds of continuous renewal. Al-Mabarrat's schools thus shone as models of distinguished educational institutions with few equals in the Arab world, because they are welcoming institutions that respect their context, possess quality mechanisms and policies supporting continuous development, and bear fruit in the excellence of their students.”

She closed her speech by calling on those concerned with developing the educational sector and all those involved in it in Lebanon and the Arab world “to recognize Rana Ismail as a towering educational figure whose journey deserves to be honoured and studied - not only in recognition of her merit, her giving and her educational legacy, which went beyond the visible impact at Al-Mabarrat, but in order to establish the educational model she embodied, in the hope that this may contribute to restoring meaning and standing to the profession and the role of the educator in the renaissance of human society”.

Maliha Al-Sadr

Maliha Al-Sadr also delivered the speech of the family's friends, saying: “How do I speak of a friend who is a choice? And what do I say of a sister who built her home in my heart, hosting in it the dawn, the dreams and the joy? And what shall I say after the greeting of peace upon her, in whom were folded worlds of a humanity that blazed with a pulse of self-sacrifice and kindled with it candles lighting the nights of ignorance and fear”

She continued: “Rana Ismail is the horsewoman who packed her bags for the homeland of serenity to meet loved ones who soothed pain and lit with their fingertips the bitterness of time when the noise of footsteps lessened at our door. She is the teacher with whom the horizons of knowledge widen, the letters turn green, and the radiance of successes rises for souls guided by her luminous mind.”

The family's speech
Sumaya Ali delivered the family's speech, in which she spoke of “Rana the mother, the guide, the teacher and the pioneer”, announcing “the Rana Ismail scholarship, funded by her family and friends, which covers the costs of a full academic year for ten students annually, from among the pupils enrolled at Al-Kawthar High School at all study stages, to be chosen according to the two criteria of academic attainment and financial need”.

At the close of the ceremony the Director General of Education, on behalf of the Minister of Education and Higher Education, granted the “Teacher's Medal” in appreciation of what she had offered of giving, sacrifice and dedication, and of her distinction in sincerity and good conduct.

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped
