The scholar Sayyed Ali Fadlallah sponsored the general meeting of the Union of Councils of Friends of Al-Mabarrat, held at the Lady Khadija Al-Kubra (PBUH) Charity in Beirut with the participation of the union's council members from across the Lebanese regions.
The meeting opened with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcoming word by the friend Lubna Al-Husseini, then the showing of a documentary film about the late Dr. Mohammad Wajih Fanous.
The scholar Fadlallah then delivered a speech in which he began by expressing his happiness and pride at this gathering, which brings together a select group of brothers and sisters who have devoted themselves to serving people in this homeland and extending a helping hand to them. He then sent a greeting to the soul of the president of the Union of Friends of Al-Mabarrat, the late Dr. Wajih Fanous - a person who gave much of his time and effort to make the journey and work of this union a success, through his long presidency of it, leaving a fine mark not only at the level of this union but at the level of the homeland.
His Eminence added: These councils have worked since their establishment for the service of this homeland and its people and for uniting the efforts of its sons. With all their sectarian, denominational and political diversity, they have worked far from any factional calculations. He pointed out that they have striven to express the national and human dimension that this internal diversity represents, and have gone beyond all the narrow frames that entrench divisions and conflicts, because they wanted to be a bright and exemplary image reflecting the capacity of religions and denominations to coexist and to meet in the service of the homeland and its people.
His Eminence continued: These councils, for all the importance of their distinctive work in the service and care field, aspire to have an effective share in every field that concerns people, raises their standing and elevates their concerns. In all of this they set out from a human thought that crosses sects, drawn from the thought and vision of the religious authority Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah (RA) - a thought open to the whole human being, seeking to build bridges of communication and work with all the different components, setting out from what they hold in common and working to strengthen it. He lived so that these values might be effective in our society, and his constant slogan was: \u201cThe heart is open, the mind is open and the house is open.\u201d
His Eminence held that the value of these institutions is that they set out from ethical, spiritual and human values, and that they respect others' particularities and convictions. He held that the value of any institution lies in the concern its councils express for people's causes and in spreading climates of goodness, love and knowledge, far from any immediate or self-serving interest. This always moves us to thank all the brothers and sisters in these councils for the sacrifice and the human and voluntary initiatives they make. Our hope is great that this work will widen through our diligent efforts to mobilize every element of goodness in society, whether inside the homeland or outside it, and its participation in everything that eases the pains of our people - especially the vulnerable groups in this society, now that needs have grown and means have shrunk because of these difficult and harsh circumstances we live in. For without the trust and support of the good and the generous, these institutions will stumble in fulfilling their role; but with your faith and your will they will, God willing, go on fulfilling this mission-driven role and their giving will continue in the essential services they provide to society.
At the close of the meeting, a presentation was given of the activities and achievements of Al-Mabarrat's councils of friends and of the future plans to be worked on during this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
