Al-Mabarrat schools opened the fifteenth reading week under the title \u201cWe Read and We Take Up the Challenge in Al-Mabarrat's Embrace\u201d, under the patronage and in the presence of the General Religious Supervisor Sayyed Dr. Jaafar Fadlallah, in the Al-Zahraa Hall attached to the Islamic Cultural Centre in Haret Hreik.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Director General of Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association Dr. Mohammad Baqer Fadlallah, the directors of the educational institutions, the directors of Al-Mabarrat's central departments, educational and social figures, and parents and students from the various teaching stages.
It began with Quranic verses presented by a group of students, followed by the Lebanese national anthem, then an artistic segment presented by pupils from the kindergarten section.
After that, the director of Al-Abrar School Ms. Rifa Kassem delivered a speech in which she said: \u201cWe meet today in reading week to the strains of letters and words, to sow the ears of goodness in the threshing floors of progress, so that we may be makers of the future and makers of the movement of creativity in the nation, enriching thought for the sake of awareness and openness as the founding religious authority His Eminence Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah wanted of us - and so that we may prove that we are pioneers of reading despite all the challenges and crises we are passing through, above all the ongoing aggression against beloved Palestine and the daily attacks on our dear South, which have deprived our students of in-person teaching and forced them to move to safe areas.\u201d
She stressed \u201cthe importance of the weekly library period, which is no longer a hobby for our pupils but has become part of the teaching programmes
The librarians' committees, in cooperation with the specialist language supervisors, have worked to organize the activities, discussion seminars and cultural sessions that strengthen reading, to involve students in outside competitions, and to discover latent potential, whether in writing stories, poetry or drama.\u201d
Sayyed Fadlallah then delivered a speech in which he stressed the importance of reading, saying: \u201cWhen the scholar and religious authority Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah was asked how many books he read in a day, he answered: I read two hundred books a day - through the experiences of those I met during the day, or at prayer, or in the lessons and lectures.\u201d
He noted that \u201ctoday we are on an exceptional journey, in which we live through everything we have lived of a crisis-ridden reality in our Arab and Islamic world. We live an intensity in everything the world pumps into a small geographical space, onto the land of Palestine. This is a reality we must read deeply, and it gives us a knowledge we may not be able to obtain from books.\u201d
He said: \u201cIf we do not reserve a place for ourselves in producing knowledge, we are consumers of what others produce, and we will then read only what others tell us. If we have no research, no studies and no production of deep thought in every field of life, we will not be present in the knowledge that artificial intelligence technology works on. So whoever wants to gain culture and accumulate knowledge must read.\u201d
It is worth noting that the number of pupils taking part in the reading challenge activity reached close to 6,000 readers, an increase of 500 students on last year.
It is also worth mentioning that reading week included many activities, the most notable being:
\u2022 Seminars and discussions by specialists on various topics, including: conflict resolution skills, first steps in building a career path, digital intelligence, and how reading makes you a leader.
\u2022 Story readings on varied topics reflecting current reality.
At the close, certificates of appreciation and cash prizes were distributed to the pupils who won in the \u201cWe Read and We Take Up the Challenge in Al-Mabarrat's Embrace\u201d activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
