And we imagined that the age of the Reappearance was near, each of us drawing for it a path that meets our dreams and wishes, and meets the great hope we ultimately live in God Almighty. All of this is true, and departs in no way from the truth.

But what distinguishes what we are witnessing today is that we have become more aware of what it means for God to fill, or for the earth to be filled with, injustice: it means that the world order, from one end to the other, becomes a producer of corruption, that this corruption becomes part of life, and that this life is the very thing a person must strive for in order to experience the meaning of civilization.

Look at the equation: all our effort goes into serving this order in the name of wanting to live, and all our work, our future and our generations go to serving this order, which we know produces corruption and injustice, and which recognizes the legitimacy of those who place their power on people's necks and strike them from the ranks of humanity. We feel that we live within this order, to the point that if you asked any young person these days: what is your ambition? He would tell you: if only I had a “passport” other than this “passport”! One that causes us trouble wherever we go in this world. He feels his life would be better within this order, even though he knows that it is this order that divided his country, confiscated its wealth, is now muzzling people's mouths, stays silent about genocides, and shields any criminal in this world from being held to account. We now know all of this, and yet our children strive after the light this order creates. What decline of humanity is like this decline? What tunnel have we entered, seeing our life in our death, our honor in our humiliation, and our freedom in ever deeper occupation!? How then will our politics be? How will we see our economy? How will our society, our relationships and our culture move? Is it not all contrary to our innate nature? Is it not contrary to principle?! This is what it means for life to be filled with injustice: that the order itself becomes a producer of injustice for the time to come.

Only then do we understand what it means for life to be filled with justice, and what effort, vision, work and struggle it requires, and in which fields, for life to be transformed from an unjust world order into a just world order. It would then be naive to feel that the Imam will appear tomorrow to do on our behalf what we ourselves must do alongside him, and simplistic to believe otherwise about this complex, unjust world order, controlled by a handful of deviants, as we have just seen in the scandal before us while the world stays silent. When the graduates of this global leadership are of this kind, steeped in materialism, in desires, in devilry, in the worship of ego and whim, and in the hypocrisy that puts the world on trial in the name of human rights while at the same time casting infants to die in the waters and the seas, slaughtering this one, severing the limbs of that one, and drinking the blood of one or another, in something that reads like fantasy, and yet the world accepts it. Of course, this is an indicator of the unjust world order that has entered into our minds and our very psyches.

Therefore, today we realize that we need a great effort to insist that there remain a kind of people who belong to God, Lord of the Worlds, and who belong to Al-Mahdi through their belonging to heaven.

This is the kind of people who see the horizon in the future to come, and who see that they must exert their efforts on more than one level: knowledge as deep as knowledge can be, effort that pushes a person beyond the edge of the impossible in what they produce, and a gaze toward coming horizons so as to begin planning and working now, so that the efforts of generations may converge.

This is how we understand the person who belongs to Al-Mahdi (AJ): the global human being, not the person of narrow alleys; the person of gathering, not of division and strife; the person who thinks on the scale of the world, engages with the world's tragedies and calamities, and does not accept that logic which understands the Imam's mission in a narrow way, as when some Shia, for example, understand that Al-Mahdi will come to take revenge on the Sunnis, and some Sunnis believe that Al-Mahdi will be born at a certain time and will then establish their state against the Shia, and Muslims feel that Al-Mahdi will come to establish their state against non-Muslims, and so on, even though the banner is the banner of justice sought by all sincere people of faith.

Have you noticed that when we began to come together over our tragedy in Gaza, when people were being killed among us and among them, not one of their aircraft, nor any of their plans, nor any of their policies looked at anyone's sect, at whether a person folds their arms in prayer or lets them hang, or at how one performs ablution. To them we were all one community, because arrogance on the other side is one community, and it sees us as numbers. And so, when we began to come together and fuse into a single project, the videos began on social media: a Shia sheikh from a bygone era, from the time of strife, speaking ill of the Sunnis, and a Sunni sheikh speaking ill of the Shia. And we discovered, at a certain moment, that the plans of the arrogant powers can only work through a strife in which we Muslims are divided, at a time when we read one Book, pray toward one qibla, share one history, one geography, one set of interests, and our generations are one in all their suffering and all their hopes, and yet we splinter into narrow alleys and marginal issues!

This will not be the age of the Reappearance, because the Imam (AJ) wants us to fix our gaze on the horizon we stand in, to contend with the politics of this arrogant world, to contend with it through science, knowledge, culture, spirit, ethics and values, and by building a true civilization in every field of life, because our minds are not made of dust while the minds of others are made of gold! Our minds produce when they emigrate and find someone to embrace them, so they produce and others reap a civilizational standing from what our hands and minds create. So what are others afraid of? They are afraid that peoples will move in a way that makes our region the point of focus and attraction, so that minds emigrate back to a place where they can work and be embraced. That is why they want us to repel rather than attract! That is how they work on us! We have everything. We have what life has not given to others: we have the history, the geography, the wealth, the youth; we have the spirit, the material means, the security, the faith and the work. We have everything needed to be a civilization, but they want us not to think as builders of civilization, and always to feel that we are at the bottom, in the lowest depths.

Therefore, the global Muslim is the one who does not merely await the Imam's coming at some point in time and then sit by the roadside because he will do nothing. The global Muslim is the one who lives in every circle to which he belongs, beginning with his existence as an individual living this global horizon, living the meaning of spirit and matter throughout this world, and leading himself according to what God Almighty wants of him, just as God shaped his Imam who will lead his march at the end of time; he shapes himself according to that same program. In our family circles we live this meaning. In our small geographic and social circles we live this meaning. In our politics we live this meaning. In our economy we live this meaning. In our culture we live this meaning. And on the horizon of the world, when we insist on remaining human beings who feel for every person in any circle we share with them, we sense what it means to belong to the Imam; because that person's suffering concerns the Imam and therefore concerns you, because that person's liberation concerns the Imam and therefore concerns you, and because the horizon that people will enter is the one the Imam will bring them into, and so it concerns you as well.

From here we come to the meaning of religious obligation, to conclude by saying: this is the value of taklif; because we insist on something connected to what God wants and what God does not want. The meaning of taklif is that you do what God wants of you and leave what God does not want of you, and “God teaches you”, from the position of the One who knows us best and knows best what is good for us. So when we fulfill what is required of us in our obligation, it means we insist on remaining the quality God Almighty wants, not the quantity others want. Taklif equals quality. The quality of a person who remains in communion with God, praying to Him and calling upon Him, and awaiting God's grace through an inspiration of the spirit that connects with the source of all greatness in this existence. This is what it means for one of us to be a person of religious obligation: that we program this mind to move according to what God Almighty wants, to move with truthfulness; that we program this spirit and this heart to keep beating with goodness for this world, even if this world harbors for it, out of ignorance, every meaning of evil. And that we move in the conduct of piety according to what God Almighty wants, because piety is the true provision and the true meaning in this world. Anything without piety is a form without meaning.

And so today we celebrate the taklif of a group of our boys, the youth of the future, who, God willing, carry this meaning. Despite all our suffering over the past two years, if we had wanted to spend enormous budgets so that our children would grasp the meaning of this unjust and arrogant world, we might not have reached a quarter of what we have reached. God Almighty has raised this generation as He willed, and perhaps He has a purpose for it in the near future, God willing. This is the generation that will, God willing, carry this cause.

When we celebrate this generation entering the age of religious obligation, we must know that we are dealing with quality, not with numbers, not with a count. Each one of them has a bond with God Almighty; because God willed for them to exist in the space He willed for them, and their space of existence must be given everything so that they may become a name, God willing, in the future.

These are our responsibilities as institutions, these are our responsibilities as families, these are our responsibilities as a society, and these are our responsibilities as we struggle against every form of superficiality and triviality that is being imposed on this country, this region and this world, the triviality that does not want us to produce quality, but produces only robots and numbers. We insist on this so that the environment keeps producing quality in the human being, because the future with the Imam (AJ) will be built by quality, God Almighty willing.

Blessed be this taklif for you, and blessed for us through you is this future to which we look forward through your eyes, your minds, your hearts and your work, God Almighty willing.

We ask God Almighty to keep our gatherings always for the good, for we need these gatherings now more than ever. Let us not allow the beast to tear us apart so that we feel neither joy nor delight. We should insist on a smile in the depth of sorrow, because our movement spans the whole of the mission, and because in all that befalls us we place our trust in the Ever-Living who does not die, in whose hand lie the reins of all matters, and to whom belongs the command, before and after.

I say these words and ask God's forgiveness for myself and for you, and praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds.
Peace be upon you, and the mercy and blessings of God.

<img fetchpriority="high"
