It was followed by the syndicate of station owners in Lebanon announcing the suspension of the strike as well. But the news circulating about fuel distributors in Lebanon refusing to deliver fuel to the orphans' stations came as a surprise. Social media buzzed with the news that “the fuel distribution companies punished the orphans' stations because they stood with the people and against their humiliation”, which was negatively reflected in the Lebanese people's dealings with the fuel crisis.

The Director General of “Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association”, Mohammad Baqer Fadlallah, attributes the reason for the “punishment” to their humanitarian initiative in lifting the strike. He says in an interview with “Al-Nahar” that “the orphans' stations were the first to take the initiative of lifting the strike, and in order to preserve their credibility with the syndicate of station owners, of which they are a part, they negotiated with it before resuming work - because we cannot be outside people's pain”.

Orphans' stations in Lebanon ran out of fuel today and were forced to close, while others do not have sufficient stock for the coming 6 days, but they “will continue working until it runs out completely”. Fadlallah affirms that “the fuel distribution companies, as far as we know, delivered on Saturday and Sunday only to the stations belonging to them and refused to deliver to us”, adding: “Some news has reached us that makes clear that this measure is intended to put pressure on us.”

In this context Fadlallah stresses that “the orphans' stations do not belong to individuals and no one owns shares in them; rather their revenues go entirely to the institutions of “Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association”, which are distributed between institutions for the care of orphans, schools and health institutions”. But what is the main reason for the punishment? “We do not want to judge intentions; we will wait to see what matters come to tomorrow - whether we are delivered the fuel or whether the embargo on us will be complete.”

And does the crisis have a solution at the beginning of the week? Fadlallah points out that “we have received a promise from the Minister of Energy and Water Nada Boustani and the representatives of the fuel stations in Lebanon to facilitate matters tomorrow, Monday”, hoping that they would “look with a humane view at the Lebanese citizen who is being crushed at more than one level, so that we do not contribute to crushing them further in their living - especially taxi drivers, the bakeries and the inhabitants of the mountains who need fuel for heating”.

The orphans' stations had affirmed in a statement on Friday that “proceeding from the credibility to which the orphans' stations have accustomed you, and since they are a member of the syndicate of station owners, they abided by the strike the syndicate decided upon this day. But having sensed the hardship of their people throughout the homeland and the shortage in securing fuel, they will not stand with folded hands as spectators before them - they that have carried people's concerns in all circumstances - despite the loss they have incurred and will incur as a result of paying part of the price of the fuel to the companies in dollars while selling it in Lebanese lira.

Accordingly, they met again with the syndicate of station owners and informed it of their decision to reopen the stations starting from tonight, so as to be at their people's service, continuing to sell until the stock in their tanks runs out, bearing the loss resulting from that.”

Source: the electronic site of the Al-Nahar newspaper

[249

post-3183","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-gm-news
["GET
