It is the faithful companion that leads a person to distinction and success in his academic and practical life, especially in the age we now live in, which has imposed on us the need to keep pace with developments that do not stop at any stage of life.”

He noted “that the decline in the cultural level that has begun to afflict our Arab society today has as one of its most important causes people's turning away from the book, and their being distracted by modern and continually renewed technological means, which have dazzled their minds and diverted them from taking comfort in a book that quenches the thirst of their cultural and scientific interests”.

He called for “renewing our relationship with the book, for it is the best means of seeking knowledge throughout life; it confronts us and debates with us thought against thought without troubling us with its moods; it develops the side of thinking, analysis and criticism in the reader in a way that strengthens his thinking, feeds the store of his information, his knowledge, his language and his vocabulary, and enables him to become acquainted with the various cultures as they have developed through the ages”.

Fadlallah concluded: “We in Al-Mabarrat institutions are all called upon to make these institutions oases of culture in the face of the cultural desertification hanging over our Arab world, pointing to the importance of joining all efforts to restore the relationship between the book and the reader, through guidance in the media and shedding light on the gravity of abandoning reading and of the decline in the relationship between the reader and the book. In our social life there is great room for bringing out the value of the book, by making it a form of welcome gift; and let us make our children and our students lovers of reading who long for knowledge, so as to attain a bright future in which we have a foothold in the march of history and civilization.”

Haidar
The ceremony included a speech for the librarians delivered by Mariam Haidar, in which she stressed “the activities that will be held on the sidelines of the book fair, the first of which was a seminar addressed to the students of the secondary section entitled ‘Between the Religious and the Scientific Vision of the Universe', presented by Professor Neamah Naim and addressed by His Eminence Allama Sheikh Hussein Al-Khashen and Dr Mohammad Abbas, in addition to an activity with the storyteller Sarah Qusair for the students of grade four in Al-Mabarrat schools; after which everyone moved to the opening of the fair”.

It is worth noting that the events of the fair, which will continue until the 17th of this month, include several activities, among them: a lecture on “Safe Entry to the Internet” with First Lieutenant Mahmoud Ali; a lecture entitled “Why I Read” with Silva Shahin; a meeting with the media figure Nidal Shehab to get to know the Lebanese cities and regions; a meeting with the writer Leila Shamseddine about her book “The Manners of Conduct: The Arts of Communication and Distinction”; a lecture presented by the JAD Association about the dangers of addiction; and a meeting with Oumaima Alaik about her books “Tell Me About God”, “The Alphabet of Life” and “Why?”.

[260
275
post-4274","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-260","tag-275
["GET
