National News Agency - The University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon USAL held the opening ceremony of the 2016-2017 academic year in the presence of the university's president Dr Mohammad Reda Fadlallah, deans, doctors and lecturers from the university and a group of students.
The ceremony included a welcoming speech by Professor Ahmad Ghazal, then a speech by the student Hawraa Shahrour about her experience at the university, after which came a speech by the university's president Dr Mohammad Reda Fadlallah, in which he said: \u201cYour university, the University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon, is beginning its fourth academic year as it prepares for the celebration of the first cohort of our dear sons and daughters in the four specializations: education, administration, media and computer science, with selected concentrations that make room for deep postgraduate studies and for entering the field of the labour market, where the opportunities will be available and at hand.\u201d
He added: \u201cWe placed in our plans the slogan Your Choice for Distinction, a slogan that requires effort, vigilance, preparation, readiness, good administration and quality of teaching. In my belief we faced the challenge with some boldness in compelling and arduous circumstances: we faced a challenge in the suitable university building, the sufficient equipment and the spaces for varied activities; and we likewise faced a challenge in choosing the teaching staff that possesses competence, experience and a record, and in the balanced curriculum that provides comprehensive knowledge and deep experience.\u201d
He affirmed that \u201cthe curriculum is considered the backbone of the movement of learning and teaching, and we were keen that it should be written out in its broad headings so that we could be reassured about its close relationship with the specialization and its facilities, and that it should be in harmony with the specifications and standards adopted internationally in higher education; what matters to us is that this curriculum should develop knowledge and deepen experience\u201d.
He pointed out that \u201cthe lecturers are treasures of knowledge and learning, and you have only to be keen to extract them so that they may enter your minds and turn into engines for your life and the life of those around you. They are the best guide and director, and we, as a responsible fatherly administration, wish this to take place in an atmosphere of recreation and enjoyable activities.\u201d
Fadlallah concluded by saying: \u201cWe wish you an academic year marked by love, confidence, diligence and dazzling results. We in the positions of responsibility will be at your service and at the service of your aims and your aspirations. Our happiness is to find you glad and joyful, faithful to your university, reassured about your future and taking part in the development of your society.
