Issa Bin Maryam High School in Khiam, which belongs to Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association, and the High School of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts in Jdeidet Marjeyoun organized a joint celebration on the occasion of the Feast of the Annunciation, in the building of the former in Khiam.\u00a0

The celebration was attended by the qaimaqam of Hasbaya Walid Al-Ghafir; the pastor of the Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Marjeyoun the Reverend Fouad Antoun; Sheikh Abbas Diba representing the president of Al-Mabarrat Association Sayyed Ali Fadlallah; Father Joseph Sleiman representing the archbishop of the Banias and Marjeyoun diocese of the Greek Melkite Catholics Bishop George Haddad; Father Philippe Al-Aqla representing the metropolitan of Sidon, Tyre and Marjeyoun for the Greek Orthodox Bishop Elias Kfoury; Sheikh Ghaleb Sliqa and Sheikh Saad Najem representing the Islamic Waqf department in Marjeyoun; the high school's principal Ahmad Attieh; the principal of the Sisters' high school Sister Labiba Mubarak; along with municipal, mukhtar, security, party, religious, social and educational figures and a crowd of the area's people.

Attieh<\/strong>
After the national anthem and a welcoming speech by the ceremony's presenter Diala Rizk, Attieh delivered a speech in which he said: \u201cWe meet today in the atmosphere of the Feast of the Annunciation, with all the messages of love and mercy this feast carries. We meet today on the basis of love, because it binds us to God: God loves us and therefore created us and gave us everything we need in life, and He wanted us to love Him. Therefore human love, springing from divine, godly love, is what can achieve peace for the whole human being; whereas hatred, rancour and fanaticism produce nothing but violence, destruction and killing in the whole world.\u201d

Sleiman<\/strong>
There was a speech by Father Sleiman in which he said: \u201cThe Annunciation to the Virgin Lady is the covenant God made with the human being to return him to the embrace of eternal fatherhood. It is the day on which the whole of humanity said yes to God on the tongue of the Virgin Mary, who said yes so as to bear the greatest responsibility.\u201d

Diba<\/strong>
For his part, Diba held that \u201creligion is a call to unity and gathering, not to division, because God has subjected everything to the service of the human being\u201d, calling for \u201cthe one set of human values and for the human being serving his fellow human being on the basis that we are all the children of Adam and Adam is of dust; for God is one, and the aim is the human being, who is worth nothing but his righteous deeds\u201d.

Sliqa<\/strong>
In a speech, Sliqa pointed out that \u201cthe history of the area that brings all the religions together is considered sacred from of old until today, since it was a passage for many prophets and saints\u201d. He said: \u201cThis denominational and sectarian mosaic and this spiritual diversity that we take pride in are not surprising. We have the right to celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation in our area in particular, which gathers and does not divide. Hasbaya is the only town in Lebanon that contains seven churches, the remains of a synagogue, an ancient mosque and four khalwas.\u201d

Najem<\/strong>
As for Najem, he said: \u201cThe message of love, harmony and sincerity is that we in Lebanon should remain united, Muslims and Christians; and Mary's message calls on us to hold fast to grace, to stand behind the state's institutions and our army, and to cast aside strifes, fanaticism and denominationalism.\u201d

Al-Aqla<\/strong>
Al-Aqla delivered a speech in which he pointed out that \u201cthe problems are not between the religions; they occur because some believers believe that God's love is exclusive to them\u201d, explaining that \u201cthe Virgin Mary, even if the view of her differs between the Christian and Islamic religions, brings them together; and the Feast of the Annunciation is a national holiday for the first time in the history of the world without any infringement of either doctrine - for to Christians she is the mother of the Saviour and to Muslims she is the one whom God chose and purified\u201d.

Mubarak<\/strong>
In a speech, Mubarak thanked \u201ceveryone who took part in making a success of this meeting, which strengthens spiritual communication among the various religions and contributes to listening to the voice of God and acting by His will, so that everyone may be an instrument of peace in society\u201d.
