Al-Basha'er Secondary School launched the “Skills Builder” programme, which aims to strengthen pupils' essential life skills, as part of its efforts to develop a balanced character engaged with society.
The project began with a series of interactive activities introducing pupils to the skills in a motivating way that ensures they understand the importance of these abilities in their school and daily lives.
In a notable step, the school was keen to involve parents through an introductory meeting, in which light was shed on the importance of these skills and their role in building a productive generation of leaders. Two training meetings were also held for the teaching staff: one for long-standing staff to refresh their knowledge of the programme's content and strategic plan, and another for new teachers to introduce them to the programme's aims and the mechanisms for applying it in the classroom.
The school adopted a strategic plan distributing the skills across the educational cycles, with each stage developing two skills in an integrated way, helping to root them in the pupils. A special support programme was also prepared for new pupils, including individual follow-up for those who had not previously encountered these skills, to ensure comprehensive and fair learning.
A paper-based baseline survey was carried out to determine pupils' levels, followed by the activities on the programme's platform alongside the paper resources. The skills were displayed in the corridors, playgrounds and classrooms, so as to be part of the daily learning environment.
To strengthen the applied dimension, community activities were carried out with the participation of different groups from outside the school, giving pupils the chance to apply the skills practically in real-life situations.
At the close of the first phase, a final assessment was carried out through the digital platform, whose results showed marked progress in pupils' levels of skill acquisition. On that basis, the school moved to adjust its teaching plans and lesson preparation so as to embed life skills at the heart of the educational process.
