Al-Kawthar High School, belonging to Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association, opened the arts exhibition “Craftworks” under the patronage and in the presence of the head of the Burj Al-Barajneh municipality the lawyer Mr. Atef Mansour, and in the presence of a gathering of educational and social figures and families.
The exhibition contained the students' drawings and artistic works from the second basic grade to the third secondary. Mr. Atef Mansour gave a speech which read: “Arts education is a basic building block in shaping a person's conduct by way of discovering and developing their mental, imaginative and innovative capacities, and it is the direct road to building and forming a Lebanese citizen according to values and behaviours our society needs amid the panting of the contemporary city.”
He said: “We greatly appreciate and value your flourishing institutions, which do not hesitate to embrace creative initiatives in the world of art - drawing, music, literature, prose and poetry - because the loftiest purpose of their existence is the human being in the completeness of their intellectual, behavioural, emotional, artistic and imaginative dimensions, not separated from their social surroundings or from a heritage extending deep into the soil of history. If this school were to retreat from this role of hers, or to confine it to particular dimensions and not others, contenting herself with what some see as more important, necessary and pressing than the rest, she would thereby commit a great educational error in terms of forming a human being in whom all the dimensions that make them a creative, distinguished and unique citizen have not yet been balanced.”
He concluded by saying: “In my name and in the name of my colleagues at the Burj Al-Barajneh municipality I extend thanks to the school's administration, which walks the approach of our Sayyed whom we need today more than at any time before, His Eminence Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah - these institutions that pour forth goodness, righteousness and giving and raise a generation complete in its qualities in heart and in form. Thanks to the educators, the arts coordinators and the arts teachers at the school, and a salute to the fresh fingertips, to our students, who are the wealth of the present and the hope of the future.”
The opening ceremony also featured artistic items presented by a group of pupils, and the honouring of the pupils gifted in drawing who had made additional efforts for the exhibition.
