As part of its efforts to provide a well-rounded educational experience, Imam Hussein School began implementing the Skills Builder programme, which aims to strengthen pupils' essential life skills, from kindergarten through to grade eight.
The project's first phase began with presenting it to parents and to the teaching and administrative staff, with its aims and practical steps explained. A specialized committee was then formed to handle planning, implementation and assessment. The committee held its first meeting and then ran a baseline test to measure the skills pupils already had before the activities began.
Based on the test results, the committee identified a set of targeted learning activities and was careful to embed them across all subjects such as languages, social studies, science and the arts. These activities were designed to suit the target age groups, with a focus on developing skills in a systematic and interactive way.
Among the activities carried out: drawing and coloring icons, arranging letters to form words, “true or false” quizzes to understand the steps of the listening skill, dramatized scenes applying active listening skills, a message-passing game, preparing PowerPoint presentations on life skills, and a religious approach to the listening skill through presenting Quranic verses and sayings of the Prophet.
Pupils showed positive engagement with these activities, which gave them a stimulating learning environment different from traditional methods and help develop their life and social skills alongside academic attainment.
The school's administration affirmed that this project comes within its comprehensive educational vision, which places the learner at the heart of the educational process and aims to prepare a balanced generation that possesses the tools of life as well as knowledge.
