The University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) organized a solidarity gathering with the Palestinian cause, attended by the university's president Dr. Mohammad Reda Fadlallah, the deans of the faculties, the heads of departments and lecturers from all the faculties, as well as administrators and students.
Dr. Hawraa Houmani opened with the university's speech, in which she said: “Even if the recent events were a beautiful rehearsal for the promised day of full freedom, and even if the dream has not been realized in its entirety now, and with all the difficult prices being paid… we must keep following the dream.”
She added: “Students as recipients must be aware of the policy of double standards in the world's media, and must be alert to the transmission of false news or rumours at the speed of scoring a scoop among users on social media sites… Each of us has a role; let us master it together.”
This was followed by a speech from the Palestinian writer and journalist Hamza Al-Bishtawi, in which he stressed “the role of young people in supporting the Palestinian cause”, holding “that the continuation of the resistance by all parties and factions will lead to the victory the nation awaits, and that the just cause of Palestine will remain our concern until its liberation, and each of us has a role in this battle”.
Student Rawan Harshi then delivered a speech on behalf of the students, in which she held that “this gathering is the least of what we can offer, and is a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people. Everything happening on Palestinian land is great and makes us, the young, feel dignity and pride.” She called on advocates of freedom and humanity to take a stand on what is happening in Palestine, saying that the just resistance continues until the right is returned to its owners in Palestine.
The gathering closed in an interactive and spirited atmosphere among the students, during which Palestinian flags were raised in expression of their support for the Palestinian people in the face of the attacks they are subjected to at the hands of the occupying entity.
