The University of Sciences and Arts in Lebanon (USAL) organized a discussion panel entitled “Al-Aqsa Flood - A Story from the Age Before the Nakba”, hosting the writer and political researcher Dr. Wissam Yassine and the Palestinian historian and writer Mr. Ahmad Al-Dabash. It was introduced by Ms. Mona Zaarour and attended by a gathering of the university's students and lecturers.
Yassine
After the national anthem and the introduction came an intervention by Dr. Yassine, in which he set out the importance of the choice of resistance, holding that “the path of surrender and peace will lead only to killing along with humiliation”, and adding: “The Palestinian resistance has on many occasions been subjected to a media offensive and to the belittling of its actions and achievements, on the pretext that the Arab armies together reaped nothing but defeat in their war against Israel.”
He continued: “Experience has proved how the Lebanese resistance was able to drive the Israeli occupation out of Lebanon without condition or restriction, and the military defeats the Palestinian resistance inflicted, which forced the enemy's army out of Gaza at a time when Sharon - considered the most obstinate in the choice of military confrontation - was in office.”
Yassine pointed out “that the timing of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation came as a result of the approaching date for concluding the largest normalization deal in its history, together with all the suffering and strangling of the Gaza Strip and the continuing attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the worshippers”.
Al-Dabash
For his part Mr. Ahmad Al-Dabash held “that history is currently being written by the arms of heroes”, pointing out that “this Zionist aggression has once again shown the reality of the bloody Zionist entity, and reflected the extent of violence, harshness and terror as part of its mental, intellectual, social and psychological structure, and that these traits were shaped by a religious and cultural fabric that made of them a creed in the name of religion”.
Al-Dabash added: “The Bible forms the backbone of the political mind in its American version and contributes to a great degree to shaping American public opinion, its culture and its politics with regard to the determinants of the conflict and its position on the Zionist enemy.”
He called on “the Arab intellectual, academic and media elites to pay attention to not adopting Western terminology in treating the issues of Palestine”, holding “that the use of the terms genocide and ethnic cleansing is an intellectual and moral duty in support of the Palestinian people's cause”
At the end of the panel the two guests answered questions from the university's students.
