In a significant step aimed at strengthening students' life competencies, Imam Al-Hassan Secondary School launched the Skills Builder programme, achieving a range of educational and interactive successes.
The programme's launch was marked by an interactive launch day, during which students were introduced to the essential skills through the distribution of icons illustrating them across the school's facilities, and by turning the school yard into interactive stations, each corner embodying one of the following skills: speaking, listening, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, creativity, planning and adaptability.
Teachers led the interactive activities at each corner, and students took part in tasks designed specifically to strengthen those skills. Successful participants received special badges and stickers representing each skill acquired. The essential skills were also embedded across the various subjects, covering learning and performance activities in all classes and stages. This implementation was in line with the recommendations of the annual conference on character education and good citizenship, with teachers, students and parents introduced to the programme's aims and stages through the media, social media channels, and internal guidance and educational meetings.
With the start of the second term, the pace of work on the programme increased, particularly after assessing the extent to which students had acquired the skills, with tangible results emerging in a number of activities and competitions at both internal and national level, among them:
• The Spring Festival, which included competitions in reading, writing, public speaking, storytelling, and science projects in physics and chemistry.
• Mathematical and mental challenges, such as the mental mathematics challenges and the “Kangaroo” competitions at the Lebanese University.
• Scientific and technical activities including participation in the National Authority for science and robotics activities, the Microsoft PowerPoint competition, and STEAM and MUN activities at LAU.
• Performances and dramatizations used as a means of measuring applied skills during graduation ceremonies and school occasions.
These participations showed that the programme is not confined to theory but is translated into practical behaviors and skills reflecting students' development across various fields.
