Al-Hadi Institution for Hearing and Visual Impairment and Language and Communication Disorders is carrying out the project (Waste Awareness Strategy Through Education) in cooperation with the National Volunteering Programme at the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Earth Association (Lebanon).

The project, funded by the World Bank, aims at “generalizing environmental education in schools, managing solid waste in them and strengthening environmental volunteer work”.

Al-Hadi Institution was chosen to carry out this project because of its experience of more than six years in the field of environmental education and the process of sorting waste, and its achievement of outstanding accomplishments at the national level, as well as the ability of those working in it to transfer this experience to the members of the Lebanese school community, so that its members may acquire environmental behaviours and transfer them to their home environment.

The training will be given by the environmental expert Paul Abi Rached, focusing on “strengthening environmental behaviour in schools and how to manage waste in the school, and distributing an environmental pack that includes a work guide and posters on rationalizing the consumption of energy and water, as well as distributing a documentary film on the methods that led to the success of environmental education at Al-Hadi Institution”.

The training will be followed by the selection of 15 Lebanese schools from various regions according to defined criteria, so as to work with them directly through the institution's volunteers in order to apply the environmental activities and procedures aimed at strengthening environmental behaviour and treating waste. These schools will also be provided with containers dedicated to sorting waste by colour.

It is worth noting that the institution invited the interested schools to take part in the environmental training and to name a representative to receive a training pack useful for transferring the knowledge to the students.
