After the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, the association's speech was delivered by the director of the relations and sponsorship department Professor Jaafar Akil, who said: “We return to our narrow streets and squares, crowded with anxiety, terror and fear - fear for ourselves from ourselves, which grow in rancour and hatred day after day. Fear of the other, every other: the other who walks on foot or rides or carries a briefcase under his arm - to the point where we do not leave our homes without a farewell.”
He added: “What kind of life are we living in this black time? What fate awaits this country… What kind of people is this that kills one another? It is quite clearly the rancour that kills in us every day the bonds of brotherhood, that slaughters love in us and that destroys above our heads the roofs of unity and meeting, putting in their place shreds of hatred and rubble of loathing. Who is it that turns our gathering into division and makes us numbers in the queues of death and killing? Who is it that slaughters our hopes and our children and makes our sanctities lawful without right - and for no reason except that our white hearts do not resemble his black heart?”
He affirmed that “the children of Al-Mabarrat are the children of the school of goodness and love and of calling to God with wisdom and fine exhortation. In this school we have learned the love of the other however much we differ with him. Thus we learned and thus we teach our children the values of the message and the principles of truth, justice and benevolence, in our homes, our schools and our institutes. This is what our martyred and witnessing pupil Malak learned at Al-Kawthar High School, which brings up its children on respect for the other and acceptance of the other, whoever and however this other may be. This school and its sister schools and institutes of Al-Mabarrat have carried and committed themselves to the thought of the pioneer of unity in the Islamic world Sayyed Fadlallah and the caller to dialogue at the level of the whole world, proceeding from the teachings of his noble forebears, the Messenger of God and the People of his House. Thus we live our lives, and when we die we rise to where God has willed; and if we are killed, then how excellent is martyrdom.”
The ceremony included speeches by the martyr Malak's father and by her teachers and fellow students at Al-Kawthar High School, and closed with a documentary about the martyr prepared by her fellow students at the high school.
