Al-Hadi Institution held a warning sit-in in front of its headquarters on the occasion of the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”, attended by MPs Ibrahim Al-Moussawi and Mohammad Nasrallah, the heads of the Ghobeiry and Burj Al-Barajneh municipalities Maan Al-Khalil and Atef Mansour, a number of their members and of the union of the suburb's municipalities, social and educational figures, and the institution's students and staff. The participants raised banners demanding their right to education, rehabilitation, health and work, which the laws have guaranteed.
Al-Moussawi
MP Al-Moussawi spoke, affirming the necessity of attending to people with special needs and pointing out that “the cry is addressed to all those concerned”. He said: “The matter of the 60 per cent advance on the invoices must be carried out today rather than tomorrow, for the institutions are threatened with halting if there is no responsible action. We are talking about thousands of people with special needs, and the ministry must carry out its duties in full in this field.”
He affirmed “that serving the human being in the country is more important than any external commitment - it is then that you express your humanity”. He called for “immediate haste in disbursement”.
Nasrallah
For his part MP Nasrallah affirmed that “a large number of people with special needs cannot be treated inside homes, given the difficulty of the matter, which threatens all the families with social and care problems”.
He said: “We stand in solidarity with these social groups and with all the families”, calling on those concerned to “hasten the disbursement of the advance that should reach these institutions concerned with people with special needs, so that they may carry out their role in caring for people”. He hoped that “those of means in civil society would extend a hand of support and help, so that these institutions may be able to carry out their mission”.
Nasrallah expressed his hope that “we may be a society of solidarity and mutual support, so as to overcome the ordeal we are in - for we greatly fear that these institutions may close their doors before the cases they care for, and that would be a bad and negative thing”.
