Al-Hadi Institution organized an open environmental day at its centre on the occasion of World Environment Day, under the patronage of the National Commission for UNESCO and in cooperation with the Chair of Education for Citizenship and Sustainable Development - the Diane Foundation at Saint Joseph University, and the e-Ecosolutions company, in the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Environment and Social Affairs, the secretary general of the National Commission for UNESCO Dr. Tala Zein, and educational, social and municipal figures.

It is noted that Al-Hadi Institution began its environmental programme more than 8 years ago, and this year concluded the PERMACULTURE sustainable agriculture project, which it carried out throughout the academic year with Diane and which entails turning Al-Hadi Institution into a green oasis through fruit-bearing and sustainable plantings.

Zein delivered a speech in which she stressed “the necessity of joining efforts among civil society, individuals and the state to establish the principles of environmental protection”, pointing out that the United Nations had decided to mark this day this year under the title “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

For his part the director of the Chair of Education for Environmental Citizenship at the Jesuit University Professor Fadi Al-Hajj announced that the cooperation between the Jesuit University and Al-Mabarrat Charitable Association had borne fruit in the sustainable agriculture project, which was divided into two parts: a part relating to creating green spaces at Al-Hadi, and the second part training teachers in education in multidisciplinary projects and following up students and their parents so as to strengthen a culture of environmental citizenship”.

The founder of the e-Ecosolutions company Gilbert Tago - which days earlier had granted Al-Hadi Institution the GOLD GREEN SCHOOL environmental school accreditation certificate according to the American and Canadian standards for green buildings and schools - explained how the institution obtained this accreditation for the second consecutive time, noting the role and the measures the institution had brought about in all its sections, its policies and its educational programmes.

The coordinator of the environment committee at Al-Hadi Institution Samih Jaber presented the environmental course Al-Hadi has travelled over 8 years so as to become a pioneering environmental school in Lebanon, enumerating the most important projects, measures and goals Al-Hadi has worked on so as to record many achievements at the level of Lebanon and the region.

In closing, a group of the institution's pupils presented an environmental theatrical performance and a musical item inspired by the occasion. Those present then toured the projects on display and the institution's facilities so as to see at first hand the institution's environmental achievements.
